DESIGN
Based on my photojournalism page, you can see that photography takes up a lot of my time! Although I would say photography is my strong suit, design is not far from it. I love turning a blank page into something people stare at and want to read. All of these pages start as a blank layout and there are no templates used. SPREADS
Explanations on the process of how each of the spreads was designed.
Houston Rodeo, Yearbook
Originality the design of this spread was a day in the life that showcased four students' routines. After thinking it over I decided with a school of over 4,000 students that wasn't going to cut it. Instead, I changed the topic to Houston Rodeo as it's something we've never covered and can have students who may not be a part of any clubs or sports or the agriculture students who compete at the event. Although the event doesn't start until right before the deadline is due I know having more students displayed will make for a more diverse book.
Houston Happenings, Yearbook
I've always wanted to design a spread highlighting people's favorite Houston downtown destination to show diverse coverage and include students involved in various activities. To ensure representation from different interests and backgrounds it made it difficult to source a wide range of unique and cool places shared by students. After sending out forms online I was able to get a variety of responses that showed our city's vibrant culture but also provided a platform for students to showcase their favorite spots.
JV Football, Yearbook
Having the opportunity to cover the JV football spread was challenging yet accomplishing. Many of the players were on both JV and varsity so choosing out photos made it difficult. With this, the spread was redesigned multiple times to make the photos fit perfectly. After putting it all together the design came out better than I thought it could be. It shows a variety of different players and positions while still looking appealing to viewers.
Art & Photography, Yearbook
Designing art and photography I wanted to showcase the usual students engaging in different forms of art including ceramics, drawing, and various forms of artwork but also in the competitions the students participate in. I'm incredibly proud of the spread with the hardest part coordinating for our photographers to capture the perfect moments of the artists in action. Despite this, the spread is a beautiful representation of the artistic talent and creativity that they present.
JV Men's Soccer, Yearbook
For our design elements this year we decided to include large cutouts on spreads instead of headshots so when I took this photo at a soccer game I knew it had to be the dominant. After creating the spread around the photo I realized I would have a lot of revising to do until I got the final product shown. I was able to get more photos which helped fill in and finish the final look of it. The spread has a wide variety of pictures that will allow for coverage of the team and it is eye-catching to readers.
